Mitsubishi Motors Australia has overcome the problem of putting a bonnet on to a moving car through its body shop, by using a manipulator as its preferred lifting equipment. This follows the installation of both seat inserting manipulators and a windscreen handling manipulator.
The essence of the problem was manhandling a hood out of a stillage and aligning in onto the vehicle, this took two operators, which Mitsubishi considered to be a costly exercise.
Dalmec supplied a custom built unit that grips the bonnet using vacuum that rotates and inclines the bonnet to the desire position.
The manipulator not only carries out the task in an effortless manner, but also only requires a single operator to use it, thereby giving Mitsubishi a substantial cost saving.
The unit was installed outside production hours, creating no disruption to the plant.
Mitsubishi had quickly incorporated the manipulator as part of it workflow, and it had been well accepted by Mitsubishi production staff.
Most importantly, ergonomics has greatly improved by the introduction of this lifting equipment.
