Staff from DMG MORI SEIKI Australia and New Zealand met at the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort in Queensland early this year for a two-day ‘kick-off’ meeting to formalise sales targets and corporate strategy for 2013.
DMG/Mori Seiki manufactures and sells high-precision machining centres, and aims to become the market leader for Australia and New Zealand in the next two years with a target to expand market share by 50% during this period. The annual get-together was an opportunity for staff from all levels to share information about the strategic goals for the year and get involved in achieving them.
According to Stefan Weiwadel, DMG/Mori Seiki Australia President, when people have insight into targets, they are committed and willing to perform, and very importantly, also understand that the targets are achievable.
The two-day meeting also provided an informal environment for personnel to get to know each other in a relaxed setting, away from the pressures of the workplace. This year featured a choice of two team activities, fishing and golf, as well as laser clay pigeon shooting on the final day.
To foster team spirit, all attendees wore a T-shirt bearing the slogan ‘Two World Champions – One Team’. The T-shirts were printed in German or Japanese, as an icebreaker to start conversations between staff from different countries. The slogan was chosen in an internal competition, and referred to the company's successful partnership between world-leading machine tools manufacturers, DMG and Mori Seiki.
