The European Industrial Ethernet award, facilitated by B&R, is an award that calls for European university students to submit innovative concepts, creative solutions and promising scientific research projects from all technical areas related to Industrial Ethernet.
The only restriction on entries is that the project must be based on POWERLINK, make use of POWERLINK, or propose POWERLINK technology in an interesting way.
This year, a group of students from the University of Southern Denmark, headed by Professor Karsten Holm Anderson, were declared the winners out of 27 submissions from eight European countries.
The Danish team earned their 10,000 euro prize with their convincing creative solution in the area of circuit board electronics. The group integrated POWERLINK Industrial Ethernet technology in a Formula Student Racing Car, which they designed themselves using standard hardware components.
Second prize of 5,000 euros was awarded to the X-Cut project from the Vienna University of Technology, which submitted a concept for exceptionally sturdy machine tools. Third prize was awarded to the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava for their practical application for optimized filling systems.
