The Water Cube lighting network structure project at Beijing Olympics
’s major supplier, MOXA, have provided support to the Water Cube lighting project in Beijing. The MOXA embedded serial device server NE-4100T was the key for achieving a simplified network connection and installation.
The Water Cube at the 2008 Beijing Olympics used over 500,000 LED lights in the lighting system, including 37000 LED lights that were hidden behind the coloured exterior bubbles. It had over 60,000 connecting points in its control network.
The Water Cube’s lighting network structure comprised of a dual Ethernet network with 3 layers, a device layer of 188 x EDS-316-T unmanaged Ethernet switches, which controlled all LED lights. This lighting network structure also incorporated the redundant layer which is formed by 16 x EDS-516A-MM-SC and 2 x EDS-726 modular managed Gigabit Ethernet switches forming the core control layer which connects and links the EDS-516A-MM-SC’s.
