CrispTech now supplies PT-7728-PTP series Ethernet switches, manufactured by Moxa, which support the IEEE 1588v2 protocol with hardware time stamping to deliver nanosecond-accurate synchronization over Ethernet networks.
The devices offer:
- high EMI immunity
- a -40 to 85°C operating temperature range
- isolated redundant power inputs; and
- dual redundant power supplies (24/48 VDC or 110/220 VDC/VAC).
Senior Director of Moxa’s Power and Transportation Division, Leo Tsao, explains that with the new switches, “traffic with IEC 61850-9-1 and IEC 61850-9-2 sampled measurement values can be precisely synchronized over the process bus.”
“Protection systems are time-critical and the advanced synchronization capabilities of IEEE 1588v2 technology will only grow more important in the future for electric utilities that seek to improve their monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities,” he continues.
As with all products in the PowerTrans range, PT-7728-PTP series Ethernet switches have been designed to perform reliably without experiencing any communications loss under a variety of EMI phenomena commonly found in substations.
Turbo Ring redundancy technology is also supported by the new Ethernet switches, which guarantees fast network fault recovery rates of under 20 milliseconds. Standard STP and RSTP redundant protocols are also supported.
