02/08/12 - The Crane Industry Council of Australia (CICA) is the national peak body for the crane industry, having been formed in 1980 with the aim of providing one voice on matters of concern to the crane industry.A not-for-profit organisation, CICA is recognised as the official industry voice by government, regulatory authorities and the community on all matters affecting the industry.CICA defines its mission statement as to: be the authority for the lifting industry in Australia develop and promote a safe and effective crane and lifting industry strive to achieve uniformity in standards and regulations throughout Australia; and represent and promote members’ interests and assist their ongoing success.Membership of CICA includes crane owners and hirers, national marketers, manufacturers and suppliers in all sectors including mobile cranes, tower cranes and vehicle loading cranes.On an operational level, the Council provides a range of services to members, including the opportunity to participate in conferences, seminars, meetings and united efforts to represent and progress the industry nationally.In 2002, CICA assisted in the development of CraneSafe Australia, a voluntary crane assessment program initiated with the support of, and in consultation with, the crane industry. The program aims to augment existing safety standards with annual assessments of cranes now being made by CraneSafe endorsed assessors.CraneSafe is supported by State Trade Unions, Workcover Authorities, State Crane Associations and The Crane Industry Council of Australia, and is managed under the industry leadership of Jeff Brundell, CraneSafe Director.
