The mounting of turntables onto rails, ball race plates or rippled spacer plates requires a vibration resistant securing system, as they are the link between the prime mover and up to 45 tonnes of weight on a single trailer vehicle. This can reach up to 135 to 185 tonnes of weight on triple road trains. JOST Australia are using Nord Lock washers, available from Coventry Fasteners , to secure their truck turntables.
Tests were performed by a third party laboratory to compare the effectiveness of Nord Lock washers. The tests concluded that Nord Lock washers were suitable for extreme conditions as a result of their hardening and higher amount of serrations on the outer faces of the washers.
According to JOST Australia, they are now using Nord Lock washers to secure turntables to base plates and in turn base plates to the vehicle chassis. Nord Lock washers secure bolted joints between trucks and trailers. Customers can save downtime by not tightening loose bolts regularly as Nord Lock washers do not vibrate loosely.
