Upstill recognised for distinguished service
John Upstill, Victorian State Manager of Cospak , was recently recognised with a Distinguished Service Award from the Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) .
Upstill has been a member of AIP for 21 years and held many executive positions in this time including being an active member on the AIP National Board.
Upstill has spent his career in the packaging industry after starting as a graduate at ACI’s glass packaging division.
He has worked for Cospak for almost 30 years and due to his vast knowledge and experience in the packaging industry he has also been heavily involved in the National Packaging Covenant (NPC), according to the AIP.
When presenting the award the Victorian chairman, Llew Stephens reiterated the submission to the board about John.
“Throughout his service with the Southern or Victorian branch John has been an active advocate for the AIP and has shown through his leadership in the years as chairman how to create and maintain an active and vibrant branch - such as we see today,” Stephens said.
“He is indeed a very worthy recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for services to AIP and the packaging industry.
“Many who have come in contact with John Upstill always comment on him being meretriciously minded which he attributes to uncle Mac Holten, a former Minister for Repatriation in Federal Parliament, and Administrator of Christmas Island. His uncle’s advice was “get your facts right or they’ll cut you to pieces”.
