A new level of interactive and immersive simulation for training has been developed by Concentric Simulation Group in collaboration with the Paris based 3DVIA Virtools department of Dassault Systemes. Known as 4Di (4th Dimensional Interactivity) it boasts the same hi-fidelilty as serious games produced for Playstation, XBox and the Web.
The Simtect Conference in Adelaide (Adelaide Convention Centre - June 15-18) has been chosen as the launch for new 4Di simulation capability from Concentric Simulation Group. Concentric has merged its years of 3D and digital content expertise with world-best technology from Dassault Systemes.
The latest level of realism is already being used for naval and industrial training. Several examples will be demonstrated at the Concentric display stand.
4Di capability (that is, four dimensional interactivity) is based on 3DVIA MP...a powerful, real-time behavioural authoring platform and Next Generation visualisation engine. As used by games developers for PC, Apple, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and the Web. It represents a new benchmark in serious game development, realism and interactivity.
4Di training environments can be delivered online via computer screens, large format projectors, heads-up display goggles or complete virtual reality. The levels of realism – in the style of hi-fidelity, first-person serious games – are immense. The intensity is real.
With our understanding of Learning Management, 4Di technology not only engages the learner but also incorporates assessments, tracks trainee results, demonstrates the consequences of incorrect procedures, has right/wrong scenarios, and preserves intellectual property for future training programs.
To date, 4Di simulation is being utilised for interactive and immersive training in defence, mining, resources, heavy industry. Its scope is endless. Training environments range from new recruits to more experienced personnel seeking advancement. Trainees can be assessed individually or as a team.
In the case of naval training, 4Di environments allows crew members to "see themselves" and their colleagues interacting onboard a vessel. Scenarios go from everyday tasks through to dangerous, high-risk scenarios. This could include boarding a foreign vessel, contact with heavily armed pirates or emergency damage control exercises, loading and stowing equipment, firing weapons, command and control on the bridge, deploying inflatable craft (RHIB) or retrieving people from the sea.
