Concentric Asia Pacific’s 3D CAD/CAM/CAE solution for Brad Jones Racing team

CATIA for Falcon V8 racer

As a V8 Supercar team to be located in a regional centre, the Albury (NSW) based Brad Jones Racing has a strong pedigree in Australian motor sport.

Brothers Brad and Kim Jones have won ten national titles in five different categories, in over 17 years of professional competition.

Their trophy cabinet includes four AUSCAR championships, two drivers championships and two manufacturer’s crowns from when they ran the official Audi Australia factory team, a NASCAR championship and a Production Cars title.

Continually looking for new challenges, Brad and Kim moved into the world of V8 Supercars. Ford versus Holden. In 2001, the Jones brothers established their team from the assets of a previous Ford team and in their fourth season they won their first title: the 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Series, with Brad’s nephew Andrew Jones at the wheel. Since then, the

team has recorded good performances at the 1000-kilometre marathon, the Bathurst 1000.

In order to continually develop their Falcon V8 racer the team decided to invest in CATIA. The 3D CAD/CAM/CAE solution is being used by their engineers to model up components with pinpoint precision, and provides valuable engineering data for NC manufacturing or performance analysis.

At the start of the 2008 season the team shook the V8 Supercars world by changing its allegiance to Holden, introducing a new team sponsor and colour scheme, and a new driver in Cameron McConville. And the change has paid off with the team enjoying second and third fastest lap times during practice sessions at various circuits and podium results in several races.

Kim Jones says CATIA continues to be the mainstay of their car development program. “Brad Jones Racing and CATIA. What a partnership! We’re both in pursuit of a competitive edge on and off the race track and together our joint achievements speak for themselves. This season we’ve been very strong."

"We’re pleased with our performances and as a key BJR partner, CATIA is very much a part of this success. What we achieve on the race track is directly linked to our talented engineering group and those guys are working directly with the CATIA software package. It’s a great product and extremely user-friendly.”

CATIA is available from Concentric Asia Pacific .
