Comtest Laboratories offer a guide to compliance in Australia for GSM cellular devices. Some of the key points include:
- Cellular devices that are supplied with GSM, 2.5G data capabilities (GPRS, EDGE, etc) and 3G cellular interfaces must be A-ticked.
- Cellular devices operating 2G, 2.5G (900MHz / 1800 MHz) & 3G must comply with Category A24, Category A53 and Division 4.5 of the Telecommunications Labelling Notice.
- In Australia, 3G cellular systems operate on three bands, namely: 850MHz (Band V); 900 MHz (Band VIII; and 2100MHz (Band I). The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) have determined that “if a device uses GSM (2, 2.5 G) access technology in addition to WCDMA (3G), it would fall under both categories A24 and A53 of the Telecommunications Labelling Notice (TLN).”
