AS/NZS 3100 added to Comtest Laboratories scope of accreditation for safety standards

Supplier News

Comtest Laboratories  have recently spent time with NATA to have AS/NZS 3100, the Standard for general requirements for electrical equipment, added to their scope of accreditation.

Comtest Laboratories was already accredited for AS/NZS 60335.1 and able to produce NATA endorsed reports for products which do not have an appropriate part 2 for AS/NZS 60335. However, it has been recently acknowledged that with changes in technology, AS/NZS 60335 has not always been the most appropriate standard.

In essence, any accessory, apparatus, appliance, cable, or material fitting, used in, or in connection with an electrical installation shall comply with the appropriate individual Standard. In the absence of any such Standard, the appropriate provisions of AS/NZS 3100, the Standard for general requirements for electrical equipment, shall apply.

Comtest Laboratories has been testing products to the AS/NZS 3100 Standard for several years, however technology changes have forced some of the newer types of equipment to also need an Electrical Authority Approval. This approval requires the test report to be endorsed, hence Comtest Laboratories acquiring NATA accreditation for this Standard.
