COMSOL Australia has released a flash drive in a solid aluminium case with a write protect switch and an LED status indicator. It adds software functions to the basic flash memory function.
The FlashLock function allows partitioning of the drive into a secure and a public sector. A password is required to access the secure sector while the public sector remains open to anyone.
The FlashMail software equips the flashIT with its own e-mail client, allowing the collection of e-mail from any computer without requiring Outlook or Outlook Express to be installed. This allows email communication from internet cafes, a friend's computer or any other public machine.
The PCLock feature effectively locks a computer to unauthorised users. When this feature is activated, the PC can only be accessed with the designated flashIT plugged into the USB port.
Files can be both compressed and encrypted to increase capacity and enhance security. A simple 'drag and drop' into the SecretZip folder is all that is required, with the feature automatically compressing, encrypting and protecting it with the user's password.
FlashIt storage is compliant with USB specification 2.0 and 1.1 and supports Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/2003, Mac OS 8.6 or higher and Linux 2.40 and higher. It requires drivers (included) for Windows 98 and pre Mac OS 9.1 systems. It is available in capacities from 32Mb to 1Gb. The drives are covered by a full two-year warranty.
