CHIPCON, represented by Clarke & Severn Electronics , has announced the upgrade of its 402 to 470 and 804 to 940MHz RF transceiver, the CC1020, to meet the stringent requirements of the ARIB STD-T67 standard for narrowband, multi-channel applications in Japan.

The CC1020 was launched in November 2002. As the only RF transceiver that complies with 12.5 kHz channel spacing operation under the ARIB STD-T67 and with 25kHz channel spacing operation under the European standard EN 300 220, the interest for the CC1020 has been high.

Numerous design-wins with leading OEMs will soon go into volume production.

The CC1020 is not only the optimum solution for narrowband applications but for any short-range application worldwide requiring a robust and reliable RF solution.

The ARIB standard specifies the requirements to license free short range radio devices for use in Japan. Similar requirements are adopted by Korea.

Contrary to European and US regulations, the ARIB standard allows only narrowband operation using 12.5kHz and 25kHz channel spacing.

This means strict requirements to frequency stability, adjacent channel power and occupied bandwidth for the transmitter part, and adjacent channel selectivity and image rejection for the receiver.

The CC1020 meets all these requirements and provides in addition a very good sensitivity giving a long range and large coverage area.

Key features of the CC1020 include: Receiver sensitivity up to -121dBm, programmable data rates up to 153.6kb/s, high selectivity (25kHz systems: 34dB adjacent channel rejection and 40dB alternate channel rejection/ 12kHz systems: 30dB adjacent channel rejection and 40dB alternate channel rejection), 2.3 to 3.6V power supply, narrowband digital RSSI function, intelligent wake-up circuitry for power management and fully on-chip VCO.

The CC1020 is offered in a 32-pin QFN package.

The CC1020 is supported by a world-class development tool that makes it quick and easy for designers to evaluate the performance of the chip and develop their own RF products.

Development kits and samples are available from stock. The CC1020 is already in volume production.
