Cisco Systems Australia announces that EnergyAustralia has selected Cisco Connected Grid solutions to build the core of its smart grid infrastructure.
EnergyAustralia is the largest energy network in Australia with 3 million customers. The energy service provider plans to use the Connected Grid solution as the infrastructure platform for the delivery of a range of business-critical services at major substations across its electricity network.
Cisco’s Connected Grid portfolio of smart grid communications solutions, first introduced in May 2010 comprises of purpose-built, ruggedised routers and switches to form a resilient, manageable and highly secure energy network solution.
The Connected Grid solution enables utility substations to integrate IP-based communications with the power grid for intelligent grid monitoring and control.
Cisco’s Connected Grid solution offers greater security, reliability and operational efficiency to EnergyAustralia’s network while complying with regulatory mandates and industry standards.
Cisco’s Connected Grid solution supports a highly secure, scalable communications network to help utilities identify, isolate, diagnose and repair faults more quickly and efficiently.
Cisco Connected Grid routers and switches will help EnergyAustralia improve the reliability of the power supply by detecting and analysing faults quicker while decreasing response times.
The solution will also help EnergyAustralia develop energy management solutions and better integrate renewable energy into the grid.
