The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia Incorporated (CILTA) was initially established in the UK in 1919, and has been operating in Australia since 1935. It represents those who work in:
  • transporting passengers
  • moving freight
  • managing domestic and international supply chains
The Institute currently has over 33,000 members and over 200 key corporations working in over 100 countries.

Its mission is to provide leadership in research, policy, professional development and supporting continuous improvement in the transport and logistics industry.

CILTA aims to:
  • involve people as members and professionals in the transport and logistics industry
  • challenge its members to get involved and take part in shaping the industry
  • provide events, networking functions, surveys and seminars through its working groups and committees 
  • keep members informed about critical issues, emerging trends, international and local developments
  • recognise skills, experiences and training
  • provide important recognition of the skills and experience of members as they progress in their careers
  • supports lifelong learning and development through short courses, mentoring programs and qualifications
CILTA's accredited, certified and recognised development programs, networking and event opportunities offer its members 'the way forward for industry professionals'.  

The Institute has some major initiatives and events in 2012-2013 which includes:
  • tackling the looming skills shortage and addressing the gender imbalance in the industry through its successful ‘Women Moving Forward” mentoring program
  • addressing key safety issues through its partnership with Circadian Australia by providing online fatigue training
  • improving professional development through various qualification and accreditation programs
  • backing the development of young professionals 
  • providing better information to its members with the launch of a weekly RSS newsfeed
