One of the orders is for cable reels for ship-to-shore and rail-mounted gantry cranes for the London Gateway terminal. A major new port development, the London Gateway terminal is located on the north bank of the River Thames, and is run by DP World.
Once complete, this facility will handle the world's largest container vessels, while providing improved access to the UK road and rail networks.
Cavotec will also supply medium voltage cable and spreader cable reels for six ship-to-shore cranes for another DP World project in Brazil, a joint venture between the company and several local partners.
In addition, medium voltage cable reels and spreader cable reels will also be provided for four ship-to-shore cranes for Patrick Terminals in Australia. This is a repeat order, with five units from the initial order delivered in December 2011.
Cavotec's technologies for the ports sector include:
- MoorMaster automated mooring
- Alternative Maritime Power shore-to-ship electrical power systems
- Panzerbelt cable protection systems
- marine propulsion slip rings
- power chains; and
- radio remote controls.
