Planetariums at Kingsport, Tennessee, US, and Kaluga, Russia, were recently fitted with the latest opto-mechanical and digital projectors from Carl Zeiss .
The Skymaster opto-mechanical projector was installed in both planetariums to work in conjunction with the Spacegate video projector. Together both systems are able to project the entire observable universe onto their respective domes, thanks to the inclusion of UNIVIEW software from Swedish manufacturer SCISS. Zeiss supports several natural science education programs and their new projector technology makes it possible to include up to date astronomical knowledge in the projected night sky by way of images and videos.
The Zeiss projectors installed in both the US and Russia can be operated in unison, which opens up opportunities for international planetarium programs.
