Full space utilisation and achieving optimum workflow are important considerations when planning bodyshop layout. Assisting the smash repairers achieve these objectives is the new Car-O-Liner EcDesign3 software package.
EcDesign3 constructs a virtual workshop with walls, doors and windows, and allows the user to place a complete range of body and paint workshop equipment inside the workspace.
The workshop layout’s interior objects include a wide range of over 370 products from different vendors, as well as Car-O-Liner’s offering of benches, measuring systems, welding and environmental equipment and so on.
Other equipment like spray booths, mixing rooms, prep bays, lifts (two- and four-posts) are available, with many sizes of bays to choose from.
Adding equipment is a simple matter of dragging and dropping. This equipment, which also includes a range of office furniture, can be rotated and angled, to allow not just plan viewing, but 3D views in many angles.
A zoom feature allows the user to focus on small areas, e.g., heavy repair bays, which usually have wall tool panels and other accessories.
Once completely laid out, the user can walk through the workshop and get a good feel of not just how this will look like, but how the layout will work as a whole. The user can then spot any potential problem areas, or bottlenecks, that may appear in the shop layout.
If the user feels that there needs to be a change, this is easily and quickly done. The layout can be printed in plan view, or in 3D, when these are being viewed on the computer.
The software comes with web-based updates available on a regular basis. A standard Windows-based program, EcDesign3 will work on most PCs, with a good graphics card.
