Caps Australia  says that the quality of imported compressors must meet Australian Standards to ensure reliable performance for the long-term.

The leading Australian compressor specialist has warned companies to ensure the equipment they are buying meets Australian Standards.

CAPS Australia’s National Product Manager for Air Compressors, Dino Alessio comments that several companies are looking to bring a wide range of compressors into the Australian market.

Mr Alessio says that while Australia has developed stringent standards for compressors, the same cannot be said for a number of smaller, independent compressor companies who are bringing in compressors into the country.

He expresses serious concerns, particularly on a safety level about the performance and legality of some of the brands being imported into Australia.

Mr Alessio said Compressed Air and Power Solutions Australia (CAPS) invests a lot of time and money to ensure the compressors it brings into the country meet the Australian Standard.

He adds that it is essential for companies looking to acquire compressors that the product meets Australian Standards and that sometimes paying a cheaper price could bring a high cost burden in the end.

Compressors imported by CAPS meet high standards of quality required in Australia, including:

Wiring

CAPS’ IR compressors are specially built to comply with Australian Standards for Wiring.

Wiring that does not meet Australian Standards is illegal to use in the workplace.

Pressure Vessels

All IR compressors from CAPS are specially built to comply with Australian Standards for Pressure Vessels.

The separator vessels are designed to AS1210 standards.

MEPS2 Standard Motors

All IR compressors from CAPS are specially built with highly efficient minimum energy performance standard (MEPS2) motors that offer a longer lead time.

It is illegal to run a compressor with a non-MEPS2 compliant motor in Australia.

Capacity Testing

All IR compressors from CAPS are capacity tested in accordance with ISO 1217 annex C 1996 (CAGIpneurop PN2CPT2).

Noise Testing

All IR compressors from CAPS are noise tested to ISO2151; 2004 annex C.

Mr Alessio recommends that companies carefully go through all literature provided with a product to ensure full disclosure as well as check the compressors’ wiring, separator vessel, motor and testing procedures for compliance.

CAPS Australia custom designs, supplies and services a wide range of compressed air, gas and power generation technology solutions for the manufacturing, mining, oil and gas as well as water and wastewater treatment industries.
