CALAIR Pipe Systems has introduced a new fire protection system, Fire-Pro, designed for cost-efficient residential and light commercial and industrial sprinkler systems.
CalAir developed Fire-Pro using lightweight, easily installed polymer piping as an alternative to metal piping weighing up to eight times as much.
Complemented by a range of sprinkler heads, the non-corrosive and colour-coded red Fire-Pro system has a lifespan of up to 50 years, depending on application, says CalAir Pipe Systems managing director John McNab.
In addition to sprinkler reticulation systems, Fire-Pro can also be used to supply fire hose reels.
The Fire-Pro system offers substantial savings compared with metal systems. Available in a range of diameters from 12.5 to 100mm, CalAir's Pro Pipe II range (of which it is a member) comes with a family of quick-fit joints, fasteners and fittings that enable entire reticulation systems to be constructed without welding, specialist labour or specialist tools.
Similar savings accrue for new and retrofitted domestic installations. A full installation in a typical 10-room house, for example, is estimated at around $3,500.
The new CalAir Pro-Pipe II second generation polymer piping is manufactured from specially formulated CXPP40 high performance block co-polymer polypropylene, which offers far better fire resistance properties than many other polymer materials.
In addition to being more than a third stiffer than standard polymer piping, the new Pro-Pipe II can carry air, other gases and water at temperatures from -20°C to 100°C.
CalAir's Pro-Pipe II Systems are permanently colour-coded to conform with the requirements of international and Australian standards AS1345 (1995) and ISO R508 for content identification of pipes, conduits and ducts.
