Australian plant produces plastic
AN Australian natural plastic alternative is set to make a global environmental contribution following the recent opening of its Victorian-based plant.
The new Plantic Technologies factory is expected to continue the R&D advances and double production of their revolutionary ‘Plantic’ material, a plastic made using plants that disperses rapidly on contact with water.
The corn starch-based product is biodegradable and free of all petrochemical materials, unlike traditional plastics, which are susceptible to rising oil prices.
The technology was based on research conducted by researchers from CSIRO , the University of Queensland and the Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, and is being used in packaging throughout Australia and the UK.
