THE guarding of the rotating leadscrew and feedshaft on metal turning manual lathes is often a difficult problem, however in most cases this can be solved by a so called "roller guard".
Cleervue of the UK, represented in Australia by CPR Safe – Ind , supplies these 200mm wide, sold in pairs, one for each side of the lathe saddle.
Working just like a window blind, the swarf and emulsion resistant heavy weight neoprene / nylon material pulls out of its spring loaded roller box as the lathe saddle moves, and recoils as the saddle returns.
The guard is supplied with threaded mounting points but it is the purchasers responsibility to manufacture suitable brackets to suit individual machines.
The maximum length of travel for the Cleervue roller guards is 2500mm.
