ENGINEERING company CIES has won an award for its large aircraft maintenance docking system, which is being used by Air New Zealand in Auckland and Qantas at its Brisbane base.

The company was a finalist in the PACE Zenith Awards 2006 Transport, Power & Infrastructure Category.

At the 2006 Western Sydney Industry Awards, held recently, CIES managing director Nicholas Bent accepted the highest award for small to medium sized businesses in the “Global Excellence” class from the Minister for Western Sydney, Diane Beamer.

The docking system includes huge multi-level structures that move in around passenger aircraft, such as the Boeing 767-400 and Airbus A-330, allowing around 70 service personnel access to all parts of the aircraft. CIES designed and manufactured the drives and controls to move these multi-tonne structures with incredible accuracy.
