BREVINI Australia has released the PWD series of gearbox units with rotating housings for use in custom-built winches. The complete units incorporate integrated brakes and cartridge-type hydraulic motors.
The gearbox units have small spigots for drum fitting. The final stage includes four or five planetary gears, leading to high torque capacity. The units allow more compact winches to be produced for applications where space and weight are at a premium. The rotating housing allows the gearbox to be inside the drum, providing greater space savings.
The series removes the need for track drive and wheel drive gearboxes as winch drives. Gearbox oil can be externally filled without having to remove the rope from the drum. They also have increased brake capacity to meet various classifications of the crane codes.
Brevini has a calculation program for choosing the appropriate gear units, with corresponding lifetimes for different levels of duty cycle according to the crane codes. The PWD series is available for line pulls of 30kN to 120kN. The units can be supplied with epoxy coating for applications where corrosion is a problem.
