VISHAY Intertechnology, represented in Australia by Braemac , has released three series of axial-leaded wirewound/metal oxide resistors priced for high-volume applications.

The devices for power ratings from 1W up to 20W are intended for applications that require capacitive discharge, short term pulsing, high power dissipation, voltage division, and dc-to-dc conversion. End products include white goods, home entertainment systems, power tools and power supplies.

The new CA high-volume wirewound resistor is auto-insertable for easy integration into kitchen appliances, automotive devices, and entertainment/consumer devices. It is available in two models with power ratings of 1W and 2W, a resistance range of 0.1Ω to 1kΩ with tolerances of ±5% and ±10%, a temperature coefficient of ±350 ppm/°C, and an operating temperature range of -65°C to +275 °C. A high-temperature coating provides environmental protection.

The Vishay Dale CP high-volume wirewound/metal oxide resistor offers a high power-to-size ratio with a power rating range of 2W to 20W and length-by-width dimensions ranging from 18mm by 7mm to 60mm by 14mm with heights from 7mm to 13.5mm. Depending on resistance value, the CP resistors are available with a wirewound element on a woven fibreglass core or with a metal oxide element on a ceramic core.

Resistance values for the CP high-volume resistor range from 0.1Ω to 1kΩ in the wirewound technology and 83Ω to 50 kΩ in the metal oxide technology, both with tolerances of ±5% and ±10%. The device features a temperature coefficient of ±400 ppm/°C and an operating temperature range of -65°C to 275°C. The resistor's ceramic case is available with circuit board stand-offs. The cement potting compound and ceramic case provide high thermal conductivity in a fireproof package that can be used in applications that require UL approval.

The CPCC and CPCF high-volume resistors are space-saving solutions that mount vertically on the printed circuit board. They combine power ratings from 3W to 10W and measure 12mm x 8mm to 16mm x 12mm with heights from 25mm up to 35mm. Resistance values range from 0.1Ω to 50kΩ. Like the CP resistors, the CPCC and CPCF devices use wirewound and metal oxide technology and feature a temperature coefficient of ±400 ppm/°C and an operating temperature range of -65°C to 275°C, as well as the thermal benefits of a ceramic casing and cement potting compound.
