The four owner-managers of Bayswater, Vic. based Jenkin Bros Engineers are firm believers in the future of Australian manufacturing.
And when your company has won a succession of Supplier of the Year awards that recognise quality of production and on time delivery there is probably cause for satisfaction about the future prospects and opportunities.
Managing Director Frank Taranto explains that he is one of four company personnel who implemented a management buyout of the company from the original founding family members in 2004.
"Since then we have moved the business into larger up to date premises in the same street, invested in an extensive range of repetition engineering and machining technology and implemented the appropriate business systems that enable Jenkin Bros Engineers to be a key supplier of machined components to the transport, mining, defence, aerospace, manufacturing, medical and effectively any industrial sector that requires precision machined components" Taranto explains.
In fact for one of its major accounts leading truck manufacturer Kenworth located nearby in Bayswater Jenkin recently won the coveted 50 PPM Supplier status in a year when almost half a million component parts were supplied to the highest quality on time and with minimal defects.
The company is programmed to perform in accord with Just in Time, Kanban and Direct to Line production requirements and employs the latest EdgeCam CAD systems and Parts Modeller software.
Jenkin Bros is also a long term user of the M1 by B & G ERP software which it has employed since 2002.
And with a staff complement of about 36 people, four apprentices in training and the capability to operate on a round the clock basis Jenkin Bros is able to machine almost any material – aluminium, stainless steel, brass, copper, titanium plastic, polyurethane and rubber .
In addition the company has in house multitasking lathes, vertical milling machines, thread rolling, surface grinding and polishing, induction, flame, through and case hardening to suit almost any custom designed component.
Jenkin Bros Engineers can also protect or decoratively finish components and undertake fabrication including laser cutting, bending and welding.
