Advanced and durable HD heavy industrial drives from Bonfiglioli Transmission (Aust) are locally assembled, a fact that enabled the company to replace a customer’s broken down gearbox recently within a week.
The Unimin cement and lime works near Kandos in NSW required a replacement parallel helical gearbox delivering more than 60,000 Nm torque after their kiln drive suffered a gear failure.
The solution Bonfiglioli supplied was an A803 helical bevel with a double extension output shaft, which also accommodates a pony emergency drive.
Fitted with a close coupled motor, the unit drives into a Bonfiglioli HDP 140 three-stage parallel helical gearbox with a 25.1 ratio delivering 70,000 kN.
Bonfiglioli sales manager David Leggatt points out that the site needed to get production back to normal as quickly as possible.
“When you’re operating a major materials handling facility – be it at a mine, quarry or building product production plant – time is money,” he says.
The gearbox was assembled swiftly in Sydney from parts in stock, utilizing Bonfiglioli’s complete assembly and testing line dedicated to HDP parallel shaft and HDO bevel helical industrial drives.

Bonfiglioli Transmission Australia Pty Ltd Managing Director Mr Malcolm Lewis explains that the HD range of industrial drives was purpose built with this in mind, allowing for remote assembly to customer requirements by Bonfiglioli subsiduaries around the globe.
The HD series is engineered for:
- outstanding torque per dollar
- high casing strength
- long-life bearing technology; and
- quieter, trouble-free operation.
The site is complemented by Bonfiglioli’s in-house Drives Service Centre (DSC) and engineering facilities and expanded stocking of drives to enhance service and deliveries.
