Bonfiglioli Transmission (Aust) are in the process of assembling advanced and durable heavy industrial helical drives in Australia. They have commissioned a complete assembly and testing line dedicated to HDP parallel shaft and HDO bevel helicals that are engineered for reliable torque per dollar, high casing strength, long-life bearing technology and quieter, trouble-free operation.
The HD series is a totally new modular design from the ground up, which was intended to be assembled to customer requirements by Bonfiglioli subsidiaries.
The new production and testing line in Sydney will assemble gear drives from 14,000 to 125,000 Nm, cutting delivery times out of Europe by more than half. HDP drives in sizes 60 to 140 and HDO drives in sizes 100 to 140 will be among the first to be assembled locally.
Introduction of the new line also facilitates quicker response to customer needs on customised drives for heavy duty applications in sectors such as mining, quarries, energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, materials handling, product processing, water and waste water applications.
In addition to engineering HDs as main drives in a broad range of high power applications – such as conveyors and cranes – the new line enhances Bonfiglioli Transmission (Aust)’s local ability to rapidly develop high torque combination drives together with their Transmittal planetaries.
The advantages of the design will be further enhanced by assembly and testing in Australia, where Bonfiglioli Transmission (Aust) have installed high-precision assembly and quality testing facilities, with specific testing and auditing procedures tailored to customer requirements.
Apart from the enormous amount of new inventory in the warehouse, Bonfiglioli Transmission (Aust) have also added the latest specialist equipment so that these heavy duty gears can be assembled safely by their staff. Some of the equipment necessary for this project includes a 12 tonne overhead crane, a surface grinder, a special purpose assembly press and testing machine, plus various specialist assembly tools such as heavy duty induction heaters, hydraulic torque wrenches and assembly jigs.
