ALBA Tooling has installed the Swiss built Agie/Mikron machining centre described by distributor Bliss & Reels sales manager Bob McInness as a “vertical universal”.
Agie/Mikron claims to be the only machine tool manufacturer with a range of machines with spindle speeds up to 60,000rpm.
Alba Tooling selected the Agie/Mikron Model VCP-600, which is constructed in a one piece base and column in polymer concrete, with a two linear motion carried out by the tool and one by the work piece.
The one-piece base and column form the basis for a highly geometrically accurate machine.
The Agie/Mikron in this instance is fitted with a 20,000rpm - HSK vector controlled Step-Tec spindle motor, with ceramic hybrid bearing, along with complete spindle controlled temperature.
The refrigerated unit is a closed loop system constantly monitored and automatically controlled even in fluctuating temperature environment. As a standard feature, the machine controls are also air conditioned and automatically monitored.
The VCP-600 is fitted with an ATC:30, directly behind the spindle inside the column where it is totally protected from dust, swarf, etc. Easy tool loading is managed via a side door.
The machine has the latest CNC controls from Heidenhain, and glass measuring scales to 0.01 micron increments.
The Agie/Mikron VCP-600 is also available in 4 and 5 axis and is suitable for high speed milling of hardened materials and in CK 45, 52 HRC, the Agie/Mikron has a metal removal rate of 700cm3/min, and drilling capacity to 50mm diameter in tool steel.
