Bizcaps Enterprise software updates product data for National Product Catalogue

Supplier News

The National Product Catalogue (NPC) is intended to be the single source of product data for tendering and contracting by State, Territory and Federal health departments and other buyers in the healthcare market. To participate, all health industry suppliers must publish and update their product data in the NPC. The Bizcaps Enterprise software helps users to validate, maintain and publish the product data to the NPC.

The Bizcaps Enterprise software is designed to help the healthcare industry to create and maintain product data for the NPC, validated against industry and business rules and in the format that the health industry trading partners need. Bizcaps Enterprise software allows the user to:

  • quickly validate, create and publish the product data on the NPC
  • efficiently maintain and update the product data on the NPC
  • link the product catalogue to existing ERP and other internal systems
  • publish product data to other major product datapools

Enterprise software also has scalable workflow capabilities that will let the user to streamline and manage the product data collection and publication processes. Enterprise software is powered by the Bizcaps GS1net Connect engine, the first middleware to be certified for use with GS1net, which is the host of the NPC. Changes to the requirements of the NPC or GS1net will be automatically provided to the user as part of Bizcaps’ maintenance commitment.

To access the NPC, suppliers must register with GS1 Australia, and use one of the established methods of accessing the GS1net platform. The Bizcaps enterprise software is now certified for use in the healthcare, grocery and pharmaceutical industries. As an Alliance partner of GS1, Bizcaps are qualified to help suppliers extract maximum value from their participation in the NPC.

The Bizcaps Enterprise software increases efficiency with:

  • a comprehensive product catalogue, including upload to the NPC and other buyer datapools

The NPC is intended to be the single source of product, pricing and supply chain data for all Australian public health institutions facilitating e-procurement for:

  • pharmaceuticals
  • medical devices including orthopaedics, implants, dental and imaging devices
  • other healthcare products
  • catering and cleaning products

Rolled out by the National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA) and hosted by GS1 Australia – on GS1net, the NPC enables the secure sharing of reliable and consistent product information such as standardised product identifiers and descriptions, units of measure, package contents, product classification, pricing and related healthcare information. Pilot programs have shown that NCP will increase efficiency across the entire Australian healthcare supply chain by:

  • reducing order and invoice errors and slashing invoice claims
  • reducing out-of-stock products
  • reducing the time to market for new products
  • improving medications management and product recalls
  • improving product authentication and the ability to track and trace products
