Bestech Australia  presents the optoNCDT 2200 laser optical displacement sensors from Micro-Epsilon suitable for conducting dimensional testing of cans in the food industry.

Prefabricated cans and can lids used in the food industry are required to be dimensionally accurate so that the lids and cans can be properly matched to form a permanent airtight seal after the filling and sterilisation process.

In the absence of dimensional accuracy, batch sealing failures could occur, resulting in loss for the company.

Micro-Epsilon’s optoNCDT 2200 laser optical displacement sensors can measure these dimensions with high accuracy.

The automated can lid testing systems use ILD2200 optical laser sensors to take measurements without contact. The exact location and dimensions of corrugations, the unfolded seam stitching height and the nominal core-height of the lid can all be acquired.

A key advantage of the optoNCDT 2200 laser optical displacement sensors is that they are not influenced by variations in basic container material colour or by pre-printed advertising illustrations and text on the cans or the lids, guaranteeing accurate results.

The system offers accuracy down to 10µm, with the same resolution. A bandwidth of 500Hz is used and the unit has a measurement range of 20mm.
