The top loading balance configuration is accepted throughout the industry as offering the optimum flow of measuring gases upwards from the balance and over the sample, minimising gas consumption and ensuring minimal turbulence. It also minimises the contamination of thermocouples by the evolved gas, improving sensor lifetimes. Depending on the model, the sample mass can be as high as 35g, with continuous digital measurement across the entire measuring range. The low, laminar gas flow is perfect for evolved gas analysis using FTIR or MS.
