Bestech Australia have launched the FN7080 Gear Stick load cell from FGP Instrumentation. This load cell is a strain gauge device, which is installed in place of the original gear knob on the gear stick of a vehicle to measure the force required to make a gear change. The force is measured in either two or three directions (X, Y, Z).
An adapter coupled with an interface collar allows a simple and rapid fitting of the FN7080 Gear Stick load cell to the majority of vehicles. The load cell’s geometry and size means that it is as ergonomic as the original gear knob. The ease of mounting enables it to be used on a vehicle or on a test bench. An optional version provides a direct high level output.
The FN7080 Gear Stick load cell can measure up to 200/500N in the X and Y directions, and up to 100/200N in the Z direction. Linearity and hysteresis are both less than 0.3% of the full scale range, and crosstalk (interaction between channels) is less than 3% of FSO.
The load cell can operate in temperatures of between -20° and 80°C, and requires a 10V DC supply voltage. The knob-shaped gear stick load cell is cased in anodised aluminium.
