The soil pressure sensors are part of a complete range of Encardio-rite geotechnical and structural engineering sensors and instrumentation based on vibrating wire technology.
The EPS-30V-S soil pressure sensor enables pressure generated in earth fills, embankments and similar civil and open cut mining construction projects to be measured and monitored when matched with Encardio-rite electronics.
The soil pressure sensor comprises of a pair of 200mm diameter flat stainless steel diaphragms that are electron beam welded around their perimeters to form a round flat cavity or pressure pad with 7mm thickness, which is connected to the vibrating wire pressure sensor via a 6mm diameter x 165mm long stainless steel tube.
The cavity formed by the pressure pad, tube and vibrating wire sensor is then evacuated, filled with inert oil, and sealed to form the pressure sensor, which is then fully tested and calibrated.
Pressure is monitored and measured by burying the sensor in the soil, sand or earth. The pressure applied to the pressure pad is then transmitted to the vibrating wire sensor hydraulically, and the sensor converts the pressure into an electrical output signal. The signal is processed by external electronics, which enables changes in the soil pressure to be read, logged or otherwise presented with high precision and certainty.
