To assure the reaction of DC current circuits and tract contacts, the electrical contact resistance of the wheel sets of train carriages must be in accordance with regulations. The measurement of the electrical contact resistances is done for wheel sets with rims after each replacement of the rim. It is measured from wheel to wheel and rim to rim (left and right one). The contact elements should have a minimum contact surface of 350mm2 (21mm diameter) and for better coupling should be magnetic types. Wires and coils can be measured with temperature compensation. The temperature of the sample is measured with a Pt100 or pyrometer and the resistance is then corrected to the equivalent at 20°C (adjustable) in the instrument.
