Belden Australia Expands its OpenRail switch line

Hirschmann developed the OpenRail family of managed and unmanaged switches, which are available as either a compact or modular switch due to continued growth and demand for application-specific switches. Users can specify port density, backbone type (RJ45/fibre) and speed, temperature ratings and conformal coating. The switches come with myriad industry approvals.

Both compact and modular platforms offer redundant power inputs and fault relay (triggerable by loss of power and/or port link), while only the managed versions offer media/ring redundancy, multicast filtering/IGMP Snooping, VLAN, port mirroring, network diagnostics and port control.

The new RS Series switches are available with Fast Ethernet ports, four of which support PoE. The uplink ports can be designated as RJ45 connectors as well as for any combination of optical fibre connectors, such as MTRJ, ST or SC. RJ45 or SFP ports (10/100/1000Base-TX).

Using Phantom Power, four ports support PoE power and data transmissions, using the same pairs in the cable. This permits the use of two-pair cabling systems and since the switches feature integrated power management, the power supply is adjustable for each individual port.

Redundancy mechanisms such as Rapid Spanning Tree and HIPER-Ring, access control according to IEEE 802.1x, filtering options per port and Flow Control with Prioritisation can be managed by means of SNMP v1, v2 and v3, or TELNET.

Fan-less cooling and an optional redundant voltage supply provide high operational safety. The circuit boards are available with a conformal coating for protection against condensation upon request.

The status of the switches can be locally retrieved through signalling contacts, with detailed information accessible for display using a standard web browser. Another central management function is offered by the integrated SNMP interface, e.g., permitting the use of network management software.
