For years Balluff has been continually working on the further development of mini-sensors; now Balluff is providing a series of unshielded versions with large switching distances.
This gives customers the option of using smaller sensors which require less space but still work with generous switching distances. The main advantage of increased switching distances is greater function reserve: longer distances to the target can be held, which enhances the reliability of the sensor.
The remarkable development which has taken place in the field of miniaturisation while simultaneously increasing the switching distance is especially evident in this sensor. 5 mm of switching distance used to be the domain of M18 size sensors. Over the years sensors with this switching distance have gotten smaller, and now have arrived at the M5 size.
The inductive mini-sensor with integrated function indicator and stainless steel housing has found application especially in robotics and automation technology, in small parts detection for example or wherever tight mounting constraints used to be a problem. These new sensors can be expected to see additional new application possibilities in the field of automation.
