Linear Motor Products.

Product/Service Name

Baldor leads the linear motor industry with performance and selection. Linear motors provide direct linear motion without mechanical linkages, therefore no backlash. There is no metal to metal contact – no rubbing parts, therefore reducing maintenance time and costs. The rugged mechanical design provides consistent motion and near perfection in precision positioning for hundreds of millions of cycles. They are used in thousands of successful applications worldwide. Standard and custom designs are available.

Function/Applications
Baldor linear motors are used in a variety of industries and applications, typical applications include baggage handling, bottle labeling, food processing, laser cutting machines, laser surgery machines, mail sorting, precision grinding and many more.

• Brushless – Cog-Free Ironless core coil provides very smooth motion for your application. Modular track designs have the versatility to provide unlimited stroke length. High acceleration to over 10 g’s.

• Brushless – Iron Core Rare Earth Magnets provide the highest force in a compact design. High efficiency saves on your operating costs and high forces to 8735 N at 10% duty cycle.

• DC Brush Type – Self-commutation enable use of simple, low cost dc controls. Designed for long stroke applications in lengths up to 3.2 meters.

• AC Induction – unlimited stoke length with speeds to 5.4 m/s @ 50 Hz. Higher speeds possible at higher frequencies or with custom designs. Easy to use variable frequency inverters provide velocity control. Power factor correction on fixed frequency gives high efficiency.

• Single & Dual Axis Stepper – Economical linear positioning package. High stiffness air bearings, versatile mounting – mounts fac up or inverted.

• Specialty Products – non-commutated DC linear motors – moving coil & moving magnet. Single and three phase polynoid linear motors.

Differentiating Features
• High Repeatability – resolution to .000004 inch (0.1 microns) – this makes sure all the parts are produced identically.
• Faster Acceleration – from 1 to over 10 g’s – this leads to shortened cycle times and improved productivity.
• Higher Velocities – speeds to over 5 m/s – this positions the payload faster.
• Highly accurate – to 2.5 microns/300mm – this provides for precision parts and operating.
• Long term reliability – only two parts with only one moving part – this leads to simplicity and improves the application’s reliability.
• No Backlash – direct drive has no backlash such as with leadscrews, gears, etc. This improves the accuracy of the part or operation.
• Ease of Installation – linear motors are designed to allow for alignment tolerances. Misalignment produces no degradation or performance.
• Clean Room compatibility – no contact in the motor allows for use in clean rooms.

Gearboxes and bearings from Baldor reduce conveyor maintenance and energy costs at Corcoran Concrete's quarry (13-Nov-2008)
Conveyor uptime has increased dramatically at Corcoran Concrete's quarry in County Mayo, following a switch to Dodge-brand gearboxes and bearings from Baldor. The decision was made following trials on conveyors in the sand production area of the quarry.

Carbo-Link use Baldor Australia’s Powerlink-compatible controller for producing carbon fibre components (30-Oct-2008)
The Ethernet-compatible Powerlink motion control network is helping the Swiss company Carbo-Link to create carbon fibre components for challenging applications such as rigging for racing yachts. The company has used Powerlink compatible controllers and drives from Baldor Australia to build a machine that winds carbon fibres to form lightweight yet ultra-strong tubes or rods of up to 14 metres in length. The machine has been successful that the company is now building a 50 metre long version to support a much broader range of applications.
