BACKPLANE Systems has announced the release of Digital-Logic's, low power Pentium III PC/104Plus modules, the MSMP3 Series. These boards are based on a fast Pentium III processor with up to 800MHz. They are flexible in that they can be used in PC/104 and PC/104Plus applications.
The compact boards have many features that are important in embedded applications. These functions include 16MB up to 128MB expandable SODIMM SDRAM, a 256kB L2 cache and an optional CompactFlash socket that supports up to 128MB capacity.
In addition, the new Digital-Logic boards provide a USB interface and a 100/10Base-T ethernet interface for fast communication in LANs.
The ingenious design, the innovative cooling concept and the low-power consumption allow the MSMP3 Series to be used in a wide range of sophisticated applications.
Technical features of the boards include an integrated RTC battery, EEPROM, external IrDA port and system interfaces for PS/2 keyboard/mouse, IDE hard disk and floppy drive. In addition, the board contains a Watchdog Timer, RS232 ports for COM1 and COM2 and a printer interface.
An optional SXGA-69030 video controller is available and includes 4MB of video RAM. The controller provides brilliant images with 64,000 colours and a high resolution of up to 1600 x 1200 pixels on the connected displays.
The PC/104Plus modules operate with a 5V/2.5A power supply in the standard temperature range of -25°C to +50°C. On request the boards are available with an extended temperature range of -40°C to +70°C.
An MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) value of more than 200,000 hours confirms the high level of reliability and availability of the PC/104Plus Modules.
These new modules are a further addition to the company's comprehensive family of PC/104Plus embedded computers. The range now includes 166 to 266 MHz and 400 to 800 MHz CPU's, and is based on the smartCore concept, which allows easy implementation of low power Pentium and low power Pentium III modules.
