BACKPLANE Systems Technology has released Digital-Logic's MSEBX855 embedded computer platform in EBX format.

The board is based on the SM855 passively-cooled CPU module, with a 1.1GHz passively-cooled or an actively-cooled 1.8GHz Pentium M processor with 1-Mbyte L2 on die cache. It uses the Intel 855GME chip set with 400MHz front side bus and supports up to 1024MB of DDR RAM.

Used as a controller platform it provides all standard PC interfaces such as COM1/2/3/4, LPT1, a floppy interface, an IrDA interface, two PS/2 ports and 24 programmable I/Os. In addition, there are six USB 2.0 ports, an AC97 V2.3 compatible audio and two LAN ports. The MSEBX855 uses the Extreme Graphic video controller, which is integrated in the Intel-855GME chip set and supports video memory of up to 64MB. The video controller has two different video outputs to control two independent monitors.

The integrated long-range power supply requires a voltage feed of 10V to 30V. As all power saving functions of the Intel 855 chip set are supported, the MSEBX855 consumes between 10W and 30W, depending on the CPU performance. The board works at a standard temperature range of -20°C to 50°C, but with a lower clock rate also operates in the extended temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.

It is tested for shock and vibration and is suitable for military, telecommunications, medical, multimedia, security technology and image processing applications. The board is designed for a long-term availability from five to 10 years.
