Lake Macquarie Private Hospital, a medical and advanced surgical hospital owned and operated by Ramsay Health Care Ltd, has become one of the first institutions to be certified to the National Safety and Quality Service (NSQHS) standards.
The Gateshead hospital was presented with a certificate by BSI Group Australia and New Zealand after implementing systems outlined by the NSQHS standards.
Chief Executive Ian Maytom explains that the new standards would provide patients and staff with a high level of confidence. According to Mr Maytom, patient outcomes are always behind policy and strategies at hospital level, but to have a set of standards that measures those strategies and outcomes is critical to a high level of patient care.
Erin Smith, General Manager, Sales and Marketing, BSI Group Australia and New Zealand adds that the NSQHS certification is a great achievement for Lake Macquarie Private Hospital and proves their commitment to patient safety.
The NSQHS standards were developed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) in consultation and collaboration with jurisdictions, technical experts and a wide range of stakeholders, including health professionals and patients. NSQHS certification enforces policies and procedures that are designed to improve the quality of health service outcomes for patients.
