A major new development agreement with Fertig Motors GmbH enables BECKHOFF Automation to invest in the future development and production of its own drive technology.
Fertig Motors GmbH, headquartered in Marktheidenfeld, Germany has entered into a joint venture agreement with the Beckhoff Group to co-develop and produce highly dynamic Beckhoff servomotors. The first of these products will be presented at the end of 2011.
Beckhoff’s range of PC-based control technology solutions encompasses the main technology areas of IPC, I/O, motion and automation. The Motion division is being strategically expanded with new product lines in servo drives, servo terminals and servomotors.
Production capacities for Beckhoff drive technology are currently being expanded and the Motion division has a growth target of 25% of total turnover in the medium term.
Fertig Motors GmbH and Beckhoff are jointly developing a new product line of servomotors that are specially designed for PC- and EtherCAT-based control technology from Beckhoff.
Fertig Motors was established in March 2010 as a joint venture between Beckhoff Automation and Erwin Fertig, the former CEO and founder of Elau. Fertig currently has a team of 15 experienced motor and drive technology developers.
The production facility is presently under construction and will begin production at the end of 2011.
According to Erwin Fertig, their goal is to develop the next generation of servomotors that are more dynamic as well as more energy-efficient and available at a low cost.
He adds that all motors should be ‘Made in Germany’ in order to ensure maximum quality standards and guarantee high availability.
With the new standard product lines as a basis, the intent is to also develop and manufacture application-specific motors in the future. This allows Beckhoff and Fertig Motors to provide their customers and their customers’ applications with ideally suited motion products.
Beckhoff’s existing standard servomotor series comprising of the AM2000, AM3000 and AM3500 models will continue to be expanded even further, so that the widest possible range of drive solutions will be available for customers.
Hans Beckhoff, Managing Director of Beckhoff Automation regards the cooperation with Fertig Motors as a big step in the company’s development.
He adds that having always specialised in hardware and software, their extensive know-how in drive technology will now be decisively deepened with the development of their own motor series, especially in the area of highly dynamic magnetic mechanics and the associated control algorithms.
