Beckhoff Automation to present PC-based control technology EtherCAT at Achema

Beckhoff Automation  will present their PC-based control technology at Achema in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The universal automation concept is in use worldwide in machine, building and process automation. Alongside system solutions for packaging technology (e.g. blister packs) or for the field of measurement and control, detailed solutions for the control of pumps and valves will also be on show at the Beckhoff booth.

EtherCAT, a fast real-time Ethernet system can play its technological strengths in process automation: flexible topology possibilities, the integration of subordinated bus systems and optional redundant wiring for high system availability. In addition, EtherCAT ‘Hot Connect’ enables data acquisition modules to be coupled and uncoupled during operation.

The EtherCAT I/O system also allows the integration of high-precision measuring terminals in the standard I/O system in addition to the connection of all common sensors and actuators. Power over EtherCAT is also supported, which means the connection of sensors with the bus signal and power supply can be accomplished through a standard Ethernet cable.

The new compact EtherCAT Box module in protection class IP 67 now also allows the use of EtherCAT in dirty, wet or dusty industrial environments.

EtherCAT is the communication system for fast, local data acquisition on the production line. The XFC technology (eXtreme Fast Control Technology) based on it enables I/O response times of more than 100µs to be achieved and increases the accuracy and productivity of production machines. Special auxiliary controllers and expensive measurement technology cards are replaced with standard I/Os.

On the software side, an integrated software PLC and Motion Control solution is available in TwinCAT, which can be coupled simply to process control systems through open interfaces such as ADS or OPC.
