CYCLADES Australia Corporation , an Avocent Company, a leader in next-generation IT infrastructure management, has announced new security features for its AlterPath ACS advanced console server family that strengthen Cyclades' leadership position in the console server market.
Cyclades is the first console server vendor to offer strong authentication technology with One-Time Password (OTP) and Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP), two features that ensure only authorised users gain access to enterprise resources. As part of the AlterPath ACS 2.6.1 firmware upgrade, Cyclades also boosts enterprise security with new data buffering features that minimise data loss.
Marcio Saito, Cyclades CTO, says that enterprise security is mission critical yet increasingly difficult to attain as networks become more complex.
By improving access to IT assets within a secure framework, Saito believes that an out-of-band infrastructure can uniquely leverage and support technologies like One-Time Password and Extensible Authentication Protocol to strengthen enterprise security across mixed, open source and proprietary networks. Being first to market with strong authentication technologies for the console server, Cyclades has again reinforced its market leadership position, says Saito.
To strengthen security mechanisms, many organisations are adopting OTP-based authentication, a process that requires a new password every time a user logs in. The OTP feature ensures that only authorised users gain entry to enterprise, partner and customer resources.
In addition, EAP provides organisations with a framework for extending authentication techniques in Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) and wireless networks. For remote dial-up connections, EAP provides a stronger authentication mechanism than either PPP or Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP).
EAP further enables the use of a variety of new authentication protocols, including token cards, OTPs and biometric techniques. With OTP and EAP, Cyclades expands its Enhanced Security Framework provided by the AlterPath ACS family, and gives enterprises a simple and secure method for proving the identity of a user.
