Intersil introduces synchronous buck regulator
Intersil Corporation has introduced a 2.5 A, wide input voltage synchronous buck regulator that reduces noise and EMI filter requirements through programmable switching frequency and external synchronization.
The integrated switching semiconductor Mosfets and a thermally enhanced compact 4mm x 4mm QFN package make the ISL8502 an ideal fit for 5V/12Vin space-critical applications.
The ISL8502 features external synchronization capability with master/ slave configuration to enable the user to synchronize up to four ICs out of phase and significantly reduce EMI (electromagnetic interference) in the design while also providing multiple outputs from the same input rail.
The ISL8502’s adjustable switching frequency range of 500 kHz to 1.2 MHz ensures high efficiency and a smaller number of external BOM components. The external compensation provides additional flexibility and enables various choices of passive devices.
Target applications for the ISL8502 include point-of-load applications, set-top boxes, ADSL modems, switches, routers, graphics cards, FPGA power, ASICs and memory power supplies.
The synchronous buck regulator is available from Avnet.
