THE VIPA 314 range of CPUs, available from Automation Warehouse , are designed to be used instead of the S7-300 CPUs from Siemens and are still programmed by STEP7.

VIPA has now released the VIPA 314 CPUs with increased memory:

* 314-1 - 96K work 144K load memory (MPI and DP).

* 314-2 - 96K work 144K load memory (MPI and DP master).

* 314-3 - 96K work 144K load memory (MPI, DP Master and TCP/IP).

Other CPUs in the range have up to 512K work memory and 1Meg load memory. As such, projects normally done with an S7-400 are possible using the VIPA 300V processors.

Since the load memory is so generous, MMCs (Micro Memory Card) or FLASH memory modules are not required. However an MMC port is provided to store the program, or if you wish, you can now store the entire project with comments and symbols onboard the CPU's MMC.

The CPUs fit inside the Siemens S7-300 racks on any of the S7-300 aluminum rails. The processors from VIPA can come with both PROFIBUS DP (12Mb) and TCP/IP - 4 port 10/100 TCP/IP switching hub built into the CPU.

None of the CPUs from Siemens presently offer TCP/IP onboard the CPU, this gives the VIPA product a technological, size and price advantage.

All processors for STEP7 from VIPA come with an MPI (Multi Point Interface) port that supports communications with S7-300 processors, operator panels and programming adapters from Siemens.

Global Data and S7 functions over MPI is also supported. They also can come with PROFIBUS Master or Slave ports, which operate at up to 12Mb/s.

The PROFIBUS port is configured in STEP7 as you would a Siemens S7-300 processor, all PROFIBUS remote I/O, operator panels, variable speed drives and other devices are supported.

Physically the CPUs are the same size as a standard S7-315-2 processor from Siemens, but under the normal door lies an additional 4 port hub that supports OPC servers, Siemens S7 functions, Siemens PG functions (program with STEP7 over TCP/IP), send - receive functions for S5 and S7 and much more.

To complement the CPUs, VIPA manufactures a range of digital and analogue modules that may also be used in the Siemens S7-300 racks.
