VIPA, represented in Australia by Automation Warehouse , has released the Speed7 CPU 315S which is programmed by STEP7 from Siemens.

It is instruction-set compatible and more than 10x faster (0.014µs) than a Siemens S7-400. It is built into in a S7-300 housing. Flexible memory has been introduced, allowing the CPU to be upgraded to larger memory size by plugging in an optional memory MMC card.

The CPU 315S comes with 128K work memory which can be expanded to 1Mbyte work memory. A 10/100Mb TCP/IP port comes onboard as standard for programming or SCADA connection. A standard 12Mb Profibus DP Master port is integrated into every CPU.

There is a parallel bus to the left of the CPU for communication processors, function modules, digital input cards and analogue input cards. To the right of the CPU a standard S7-300 card from Siemens or 300V card from VIPA can be connected.

The CPU comes with a 12Mb MPI port for the Siemens MPI adaptor cable. Included is a MMC slot for program backup or storage of complete symbols and comments from Step7. It uses a standard MMC so that users can read and write to it via a standard MMC card reader. Any file type can be stored on the MMC in this way.

Users can configure the CPU with existing Step7 and cables, or use the VIPA WinPLC7 software. VIPA also supplies the MPI cables which autodetect PPI/MPI/teleservice environments and allow programming to all VIPA and Siemens S7 CPUs.
