THE VIPA IM353 Profibus slave module, available from Automation Warehouse , allows the use of Siemens S7-300 and VIPA 300V digital and analogue input and output cards on Profibus in place of the ET200M from Siemens.
The IM353 still plugs onto the Siemens custom DIN rail and rack. Configuration is conveniently similar to the Siemens equivalent by utilising STEP7 and the provided GSD file from VIPA.
VIPA has now released the IM353 Profibus slave which boasts 152-byte input and 152-byte output address area.
The IM353 allows connection of up to 32 modules from VIPA or Siemens in one line and one drop, whereas the Siemens ET200M is limited to eight modules for each Profibus drop.
This provides a distributed architecture over Profibus but with centralised sized I/O quantities. No longer is the user limited to smaller I/O quantities for each drop when distributing I/O over Profibus.
It is possible to connect up to 1024 digital I/O points to the one Profibus IM353 drop. The modules may be mounted vertically in the MCC for greater utilisation of the design.
To complement the IM353, VIPA manufactures a range of CPUs, digital and analogue modules that may also be used in the Siemens S7-300 racks.
