North East Water is a regional water corporation that utilises 3D CAD software from Autodesk Australia to produce accurate mapped information on its extensive network of water and wastewater infrastructure assets.
Delivering water and wastewater services to 38 communities in North East Victoria, North East Water has adopted AutpCAD Map 3D software to help create, edit, and manage mapped infrastructure information, and Autodesk Infrastructure Map Server software running enlighten, Open Spatial Australia’s web-mapping interface, to deliver asset maps to its personnel.
Using AutoCAD Map 3D and Autodesk Infrastructure Map Server, North East Water is able to:
- drive better asset management decisions
- reduce the time required to prepare as-built data for the GIS from a day and a half to 10 minutes
- deliver more accurate, timesaving maps and asset data to staff in the office and field; and
- find and train new employees more easily.
Michael Hardman, Geospatial and Business Data Manager for North East Water notes that Autodesk's 3D CAD software "helps provide a foundation for keeping our asset information up to date, and we’ve relied on it for many years."
"It’s helped us face and overcome a variety of challenges. When we’ve wanted to efficiently account for growth, enhance customer service, and train new people, AutoCAD Map 3D has supported our efforts," he adds.
Since adopting the software, Hardman explains that North East Water has seen significant improvements to productivity, with the process of capturing as-built data for a new subdivision down from around a day and a half to just 10 minutes.
The core benefit of the system for Hardman, however, is the accuracy of the data generated.
"Anytime you have accuracy issues, you have increased risks to costs and service levels," he says. "Being able to manage our geospatial and attribute data proactively in AutoCAD Map 3D helps increase the quality of the data we use to make maintenance decisions and serve customers. It helps us to quite literally see where we need to target our efforts to provide the highest level of service we possibly can."
